Hi, I'm KARA

It’s 2025, and let’s face it—everyone is creating videos. Scroll through any platform, and it’s a constant stream of content. You can literally learn anything you want thanks to video content being uploaded to platforms like YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok. (YouTube taught me how to edit videos, but that’s a story for another day 🤣.) And while it’s exciting to see so much creativity, it also means we have to stop making videos that look like everyone else, particularly if you want viewers to watch your video.

Here’s the thing—just making a video isn’t enough anymore. If you want to make an impact, your content needs to cut through the noise, grab attention, and actually connect with people on a deeper level. And with Meta stepping away from fact-checking and ongoing talks about a TikTok ban, it’s a clear reminder that the platforms we use are always shifting. The reality is we don’t own the apps, but we do own our video content. That’s why video marketing in 2025 should be all about creating content that works anywhere, tells a great story, and genuinely resonates.

I really hate to break it to you, but the same videos you were making in 2020 just aren’t going to cut it in 2025. So, how do you approach video in a way that feels fresh, meaningful, and future-proof? (You know, in a way that will grow with you no matter what happens with a platform or algorithm!)

Understand That Quality Trumps Quantity

In 2021, I was told by a number of business coaches that video is only a numbers game. (Keep in mind these people had never worked in any type of production field and had only grown a big following making short little videos.) Their advice? “Post as much as possible. The more videos, the better.” As someone who has really knows and worked in video production, I can tell you, they’re wrong, especially when we’re looking at video marketing in 2025.

Video marketing is NOT about flooding the airwaves, it’s about making videos that viewers want to watch. The average viewer is exposed to an estimated 10,000 of videos every single day. Think about that for a second. Why would just focusing on the sheer volume of videos be a good strategy, when we’re inclined to scroll past most videos that we see?

The truth is, if you’re just cranking out content without considering quality, you’re contributing to that noise. Instead, focus on creating videos that have value, that entertain, solve a problem, or tell a meaningful story. A well-crafted video will not only capture attention but will also leave a lasting impact—something that the 10th random clip in someone’s feed simply can’t do.

So, rather than aiming to post more, focus on making your videos count. In a crowded market like the one we’re facing in 2025, quality is what will make your videos stop the scroll.

Stand Out with Storytelling

Video, at its core, is a story—and don’t let anyone try to tell you differently. We live in a world where we’re constantly creating content, so it’s easy to to think that video just naturally gets lost in all the content but that shouldn’t be the case. In fact, I’d venture to say the people telling you that have never worked in video.

Storytelling has the unique ability to break through that noise, cut through the distractions, and create an emotional connection that people remember. When done right, storytelling turns a simple video into an experience. It pulls your audience in, makes them feel something, and leaves a lasting impression. People don’t remember dry facts or endless product details—they remember stories that move them, that make them laugh, cry, or think differently.

As you approach your video marketing in 2025, keep in mind that the best videos are the ones that tap into emotion. Whether you’re sharing a customer success story, giving behind-the-scenes insight, or even talking about your brand’s journey, storytelling helps you relate to your audience on a deeper level. It’s not just about what you’re selling; it’s about what you’re making people feel, and that’s how you turn viewers into loyal fans.

Repurpose Content Strategically

A part of video marketing and video production that I don’t think people talk a lot about—and when they do, it’s usually about hiring a production team—is the workflow and how to make video in a smarter way. One of the most effective ways to work smarter is by repurposing your content. It’s not just about making one video; it’s about creating a system where every piece of content you produce can be reused, reshaped, and repackaged to extend its value and reach.

Let’s say you’ve created a long-form video for YouTube. That single video can be broken into shorter clips for Instagram Reels, TikTok, or LinkedIn posts. What about the b-roll clips you have sitting in your phone? Add a voice over and suddenly you have a new way of telling a story.

This isn’t just efficient; it’s essential for successful video marketing in 2025. Consistency matters, but so does creativity. Repurposing allows you to maintain both without doubling your workload. With the right approach, every video becomes a foundation for more content, helping you stay visible and engaged across platforms while staying true to your brand.

Consistency Builds Trust

I know, I know everyone preaches consistency but I don’t think people understand all that it means to be consistent with your videos. It’s not just about consistently posting (though that helps). True consistency is about showing up in every sense: in your messaging, your visual style, and the value you deliver.

When your developing your strategy for your video marketing in 2025, consistency is how the audience grows to trust you. When your audience knows they can count on you to provide valuable, on-brand content regularly, it builds a connection that goes beyond the screen.

Being consistent doesn’t mean being perfect. It means being present. It means that your tone, visuals, and message work together seamlessly, throughout every video. No matter what platform you’re posting on, your content should feel cohesive and recognizable. This kind of consistency creates familiarity, and familiarity is the foundation of trust.

You know how easy it is for videos to get lost in the endless scroll and that’s why it’s important to develop a recognizible style, to help encourage your audience to stop scrolling and watch your videos. That’s trust, and that’s what keeps them coming back for more.

Reverse Engineer Your Videos for Success

One of the smartest ways to approach video creation is to start with the end in mind. Before you hit record, ask yourself: What do I want this video to achieve? Whether it’s boosting brand awareness, driving sales, or sparking engagement, defining your goal is the foundation of any successful video.

When it comes to video marketing in 2025, reverse engineering your videos can really help you create better videos. Think of it as working backward—decide what action you want your viewers to take after watching, and then design your content to guide them toward that outcome.

Every element of your video should serve a purpose and work together. The hook should grab attention, ensuring your viewers stick around past the first few seconds. Every shot should guide the viewer’s eye and add to the story, keeping them engaged from start to finish. Your message should deliver value—whether that’s through solving a problem, sharing insights, or simply connecting on an emotional level.

By reverse engineering the video you can make sure that every element works together to achieve the goal of that video. This strategic approach not only makes your videos more effective but also helps you create content that resonates deeply with your audience. Every frame, word, and call to action contributes to achieving the video’s goal, making your content stand out.

Create Videos That Work on Every Platform

If this first month of the year has taught me anything, it’s that we need to stop focusing on creating videos for a certain algorithm and instead make videos for the viewers we are trying to appeal to. (You can read about how to approach video in this new social media landscape in a recent blog post.) Algorithms change constantly, but one thing stays the same: people connect with content that feels authentic, valuable, and engaging.

When it comes to video marketing in 2025, the focus should be on making videos that resonate with your audience, regardless of where they’re watching. Whether it’s TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, or any other platform, videos that tell a compelling story and provide real value will always perform well.

Start by understanding your audience. What are their pain points? What kind of content excites, educates, or entertains them? Build your videos around these insights, ensuring they’re designed to grab attention quickly, hold it, and leave a lasting impression.

Another key element is adaptability. While your core message should remain consistent, your video format might need slight adjustments to fit different platforms. By focusing on your viewers and their needs, you create content that works across platforms—even as algorithms evolve. It’s not about chasing trends; it’s about making videos that consistently deliver value and connect with the people you want to reach.

Making Data-Driven Decisions

In 2025, video marketing success will come down to one critical approach: making data-driven decisions. While creating visually engaging and emotionally compelling videos is important, the real key lies in understanding how your audience interacts with your content. That’s where metrics like watch time and average watch time come in.

These two metrics are among the most telling indicators of your video’s performance. Watch time measures the total amount of time viewers spend watching your video, while average watch time reveals how long, on average, viewers stay engaged. When these numbers are strong, it signals to algorithms that your content is resonating with viewers—and that’s exactly how you stay on the right side of any platform’s algorithm.

When crafting your video marketing strategies for 2025, prioritize content that hooks viewers early and keeps them engaged. A compelling hook in the first few seconds can make or break your watch time. From there, focus on delivering value throughout—whether it’s answering a question, solving a problem, or evoking emotion.

But don’t stop at creation—analyzing your data is just as important. Look at your metrics to identify what’s working and what’s not. Are viewers dropping off at a certain point in your video? That’s a sign you need to adjust your pacing or structure. Are certain topics or formats retaining viewers longer? Lean into those insights and create more of what’s clearly resonating.

By focusing on watch time and average watch time, you’ll not only create videos that perform well algorithmically but also build stronger connections with your audience. Data doesn’t just inform your strategy—it helps you continually refine it, ensuring your videos get better, smarter, and more impactful over time.

Conclusion

Video marketing in 2025 is all about working smarter, not harder. From telling powerful stories and repurposing content to building trust through consistency, reverse-engineering your videos, and making data-driven decisions, the strategies for success are all within your reach. The key is to create videos that resonate with your audience—videos they want to watch, engage with, and share.
