Gillian Perkins is a well known business Youtuber, delivering tips about entrepreneurship and scaling a business to her audience. While she scaled her business, I stepped in as a video editor to deliver weekly videos for her youtube channel. I always enjoy editing videos for Gillian because her tips are beneficial for any entrepreneur and when executed properly, are delivered in a very intriguing and entertaining manner.
As the video editor it is my job to organize and edit all of the raw material, graphics, and sound effects into a cohesive story. Since Gillian is already a well established Youtuber, it was extremely important that my edits matched her branding and previous videos. Here are a few creative decisions and details about this project:
The audience of a video has a lot to do with how it will be viewed. Since these videos are all for Youtube, it is important to keep the pace moving by cutting out the pauses and adding pattern interrupts (ie change shots or add pop up graphics). The Youtube algorithm significantly factors in the viewers retention rate, which means non of the edits should be jarring or visible to take the viewer out of the experience of watching that video.
The basics of any story is to have a beginning, middle, and an end. But there is no hard and fast rule that says when each of these needs to happen on the timeline. With more informative videos, I like to tease a part of the solution before the video introduces the problem to create a little intrigue and need to continue watching the video.
From cutting and splicing, color correcting, sound editing, to graphic animation, we can transform your footage into beautifully edited videos.
